FAQ's About Counselling
What happens in the first counselling session?
Our first counselling session is an assessment. You will have the opportunity to explore why you feel you need counselling and where your difficulty lies. We will discuss if counselling is right for you and if you feel comfortable enough to work together.
I will also tell you about the counselling framework which includes confidentiality, fees and session times.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
I offer both short and long term counselling. This can be discussed in our initial session. It may be that you need psychodynamic counselling (Talking therapy), CBT or Mindfulness.

How Counselling Works
Counselling can provide you with help and support if you are going through a difficult time in your life.
As a trained psychodynamic counsellor, I offer a safe non-judgmental and confidential environment, where you can feel comfortable and at ease in expressing and exploring your feelings. We would work together to make sense of your emotions, and with reflection, work out the best path to move forward. I work with a wide range of issues from anxiety, depression and life events such as bereavement, abuse, betrayal, family or relationship issues.
I have extensive experience of working with people from different sexual orientations, social and cultural backgrounds. I understand that you may be feeling anxious, a lack of connection, have a sense of loss or just feel stuck. You may even feel disconcerted or ill at ease, and cannot understand why or who to turn to. Coming to counselling may feel daunting, but actually is a sign of strength, and is often the first brave step towards finding a stronger sense of self and inner peace.
I appreciate that each person is completely individual, and so will find the most appropriate approach that considers your particular life circumstances. My aim is to listen carefully to your feelings and tailor the approach and work at a pace that makes sense for you. For instance, it may be that you need either short term or long term talking therapy, or simply require some CBT or Mindfulness to help provide some coping mechanisms.
About me
I am an accredited and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics. I also hold a Diploma
and Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, as well as a BA Hons in Psychology and Social Studies.
My main area of focus is psychodynamic which is a talking therapy. I work with adult clients which means that you can set the focus for the work but go at your own pace. I work with unconscious processes which is key to understanding current behaviours and the patterns that have been formed and how those behaviours might have affected relationships whether positive or negative.
In addition to my private practice, I have worked for over 11 years with different organisations, including Broxbourne Counselling Centre, and as a volunteer and group mentor for the charity, No Panic.
I can be contacted at any time via phone or email if you have any questions about counselling. A short informal chat about how counselling may be of benefit to you is a good place to start.
